Unique original monotype on Somerset paper measuring 59.5 x 68 cm. It is framed floated and raised on a soft white mount, within a slim black matte frame measuring 72 x 80 cm.

Inspired by a poem, Fiona felt the title describes something of the 'otherness' of the forest - removed from the domestic setting. It takes you into an awe-inspiring place that seems to hold you, as well as the emotions you may be feeling.

The Artist

Through Fiona’s deeply atmospheric and evocative original monotypes, we step into the forest. Into the unknown, the wild and a space laden with metaphysical meaning and narrative. An important symbol for Fiona, the forest is both a mysterious, haunting place full of uncertainty and fragility, and a healing, restorative space for the planet and the individual.

In Fiona’s monotype process she utilises rollers, rags and other materials to layer ink upon the plate, using the early ghost layers to create depth and perspective. She draws us deep into the trees with her monotone palette and ethereal, misty mark-making. Based in Walthamstow, Fiona is a tutor at East London Printmakers and studied at Central St Martins.
